Laura Farris MP visits Fuel Cell Systems Ltd to discuss hydrogen and fuel cell technology in West Berkshire

Laura Farris MP recently visited Fuel Cell Systems Ltd (FCSL) in Hungerford to see their operations up close and learn more about their role in the hydrogen and fuel cell economy. The visit formed part of the UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association’s Road to COP26 campaign to promote the “Best of British” companies and technologies that will be at the forefront of decarbonising our planet.

FCSL design and manufacture a range of hydrogen refuelling systems for transport, designed and manufactured at our premises in Hungerford.  Our products are affordable, scalable and redeployable, so customers can start small with hydrogen and then grow their involvement for the future.  We also offer a mobile refuelling solution, taking hydrogen when and where it is needed.

During the visit Laura Farris and Tom Chicken (CTO at FCSL) discussed the importance of hydrogen and fuel cells to the UK economy and the role FCSL is playing in delivering affordable, scalable and mobile hydrogen refuelling products to the UK and European markets.

Commenting on the visit, Laura Farris MP said:It was great to visit one of West Berkshire’s most cutting edge businesses, Fuel Cell Systems Ltd, who are leading the market in the supply of hydrogen refuelling. It was fantastic to get to drive one of the emission free hydrogen vehicles they run and to hear how easily we could get these on the market with more infrastructure. It is really impressive to see such important green technologies being pioneered here in West Berkshire.”

Tom Chicken from Fuel Cell Systems Ltd said: “FCSL are proud to be supporting the UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association’s (UK HFCA) Road to COP26 campaign. We hope that the conference will be a pivotal moment in the world decarbonising to avert dangerous climate change and protecting the planet. But this shift to a more sustainable world also creates real opportunities for the UK and West Berkshire.  Our refuelling products can help companies to trial hydrogen vehicles before committing to significant investment.  Also, our fuel cells already provide a green power solution for a wide range of applications including CCTV towers, environmental monitoring and wildlife filming. We are really excited about the change we can help make.”

Commenting on the visit Celia Greaves, CEO of the UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, said:We are delighted to see Laura Farris MP visit FCSL to hear more about the work that the business is doing and the key role that it plays in the UK’s hydrogen economy. Firms like FCSL show that hydrogen and fuel cells are not only an energy solution for the future, but is a technology that is happening here and now in West Berkshire.

As the UK approaches COP26, the spotlight will be on how the UK will achieve its ambitious carbon emission reduction targets. Firms such as FCSL will play an integral role in helping to achieve the Government’s green ambitions.”

The Road to COP26 campaign is supported by the UK Government’s Department for International Trade and is aiming to promote the UK’s domestic hydrogen and fuel cell industry in the run up to the COP26 climate conference, taking place in Glasgow between 1-12 November 2021.
