Hydrogen technology takes the spotlight at CENEX 2024
Last week, at the CENEX Low Carbon Vehicle Event, the prominence of hydrogen technologies marked a significant shift in the industry’s approach to sustainable mobility. Afters years if shows dominated by battery electric solutions, the 2024 exhibition highlighted the growing role of hydrogen in the clean energy transition, with an impressive array of hydrogen vehicles and infrastructure on display.
This year truly felt like a turning point for the sector, and at Fuel Cell Systems we were proud to showcase several of our key projects that demonstrate the potential of hydrogen as a practical and sustainable energy solution.
One of the highlights of our exhibition at CENEX was the HyQube 850, a hydrogen refuelling system that operates at 700 bar pressure. Initially introduced at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, the HyQube 850 made its CENEX debut, where it continued to impress. As the demand for hydrogen infrastructure grows, solutions like the HyQUbe 850 will play a crucial role in enabling the shift towards hydrogen.
Among the various hydrogen innovation on display at Toyota GB’s range of hydrogen and electric vehicles. Central to their exhibit was the hydrogen refuelling truck, designed and built by Fuel Cell Systems. This mobile refuelling unit was used to fuel Toyota’s hydrogen-powered Hilux, Mirai, forklifts and bus at the event, offering a glimpse into the future of hydrogen-powered transportation.
The truck is a mobile extension of the fixed hydrogen refuelling station we developed for Toyota GB manufacturing plant. Its versatility in supporting different hydrogen-powered vehicles and projects underlines the flexibility of hydrogen infrastructure solutions.
Another exciting project showcased at CENEX was our collaboration with Cranfield University to develop an electric hydrogen refuelling truck. This mobile refuelling solution offers an eco-friendly way to refuel hydrogen vehicles on the move, highlighting the adaptability of hydrogen as a clean energy source. As hydrogen infrastructure expands, solutions like this will be instrumental in ensuring vehicles can be refuelled efficiently, even in remote and challenging environments.
The growing role of hydrogen in sustainable mobility
The increased visibility in hydrogen technology at CENEX 2024 signals rapidly growing interest in hydrogen as a cornerstone of the future clean energy mix. Hydrogen’s ability to provide efficient, scalable and sustainable power for vehicles and other applications is becoming increasingly clear, and Fuel Cell Systems is proud to be at the forefront of the road to net zero.
As we continue to develop and deploy practical, innovative hydrogen solutions, we are helping to pave the way for a future where hydrogen plays a central role in sustainable mobility and energy infrastructure. The future of clean energy is here and hydrogen is leading the change.
